Obesity as a chronic disease has progressed in the last 10 years especially towards defining factors that influence its incidence. Fortunately with better insight, effective and safe treatment options through anti-obesity medications have been approved for use. Join us to talk about the latest treatment options to manage this complex disease that has roots in many progressive diseases (e.g diabetes, chronic kidney disease and metabolic dysfunction associated liver disease). Learning Objectives: 1.) Overview of Obesity and factors influencing its incidence 2.) Review of historic and current anti-obesity medications used to manage weight and diabetes 3.) Discuss important implications and parameters for promoting and monitoring safe & successful weight management strategies for patients pre/post-transplant Megan Flores is a Registered Dietitian Lead that currently works as a Solid Organ Transplant Dietitian within the Transplant Institute at Banner University Medical Center located in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a Board-Certified Specialist in Obesity and Weight Management (CSOWM) and has participated as an active member within the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Specializing in both liver and kidney transplant populations, she is devoted to providing comprehensive nutrition therapy to pre/post-transplant patients, living donors, and advanced liver disease patients. Her interest include: research and quality improvement opportunities to optimize nutrition care to promote outcomes before/after transplant, dedication towards evolving comprehensive nutrition education with patients and within the community, and mentoring/teaching as a preceptor for students interested in becoming future Dietitians.
